The Low Hum of Summer

The low hum of summer
escaping through the air
underpins each person's dreams
equally without artifice
or judgement

The summer vibration
has its own story
being told in its way through,
its own way through

And all of us fellow travelers
have already bought our tickets
The itinerary yet
to be told

Music comes
into the mind like a cricket
singing to herself

It almost seems too fragrant
this end of summer breeze
like the day before
your lover leaves for college
and you both gaze out the doorway
at the last rays

I love the way the summer hum--a vibration-- has its own story, that is to say, the frequency that is a match for each reader's frequency who divines their own seasonal narrative in thiS poem of perpetual leavetaking. Leaves me breathless and tuning on for more suggestive ambiguity that foretells my bran ching path, Stirling!

Thank you so much, John. It's great to read that this resonated for you. More poetry to come when the inspiration strikes ...

An enjoyment of the contentment of summer through that hum, beautiful, the cricket singing, the vibration in which we create our dreams, and then, nostalgia for what is passing. The last stanza really works... summer is a lover who is leaving. A wonderful/sad time of the year and you have expressed it so fully I am entranced with your poem.
